- At 4pm : RAKU FIRING
Join the BADCAP team for an exciting dusk event of glazing and Raku firing.
Raku firing involves applying a special raku glaze to a piece of ceramic, firing it really quickly until glaze melts and removing the red hot piece before putting it in a reduction environment, depriving the glaze of oxygen. This turns the metals in the glaze into their base colour ie copper goes red etc. Results are always unexpected and surprising!
Pinch pots will be available for you to glaze and fire for a small cost ($5 – $15).
Please wear closed in shoes. Raku glazes, leather gloves and tools will be available.
Participants get to take home their pieces and are always amazed at the beautiful colours they have created when their pieces have cooled to show off the glazed patina they have created.

Reflection Circle and Light of Hope Ceremony
Be a beacon of hope for the future in these times.
We invite you to join with us in a simple ceremony where we will share our intentions of hope for ourselves, our families, our communities, our world.
Throughout the day on Saturday 7 May you will be able to take some time to stop, sit and reflect in a natural setting. In this space we ask you to write a message of hope and tie it to our ceremonial tree, as its green leaves.
If you join us in the evening there will be time during the ceremony to write and place your leaf of hope upon the tree.
Assistance will be provided to those who would require it, to have their message added and we will accept messages that are posted on the Facebook page.
The non-denominational ceremony will commence at 8pm after the programmed Arts Dinner on stage, where ceremony designer will be a part of the panel discussion. Participants will make their way to create a circle around the handcrafted and smithed central ceremonial tree.
Ceremonial fires will be lit, accompanied by musicians. As all the leaves are placed on the tree, moments of silence will be observed before the ceremonial tree becomes ablaze and transforms the messages of hope unto the sky.
As time is returned, prepare to be drawn back to the stage by the infectious to-tapping folk sounds of the band, who will soon see you kicking up your heels under the stars.
Curated music for the Ceremony will be provided by Scenic Rim musicians Rob & Jo Davies in conjunction with Valkyrie.
- From 9pm Rob & Jo will continue to entertain patrons with songs and music to conclude a very special evening and day 1 of Arts in the Olives.
